Bienvenidos, We are the Sciutto's Tim, Cheryl, Ryan, Carley and Katie. We are missionaries here in Creel, Mexico.
Creel is a beautiful little town nestled in the Sierra Madre Mountains of central Mexico about 150 miles south and west of the city of Chihuahua in the state of Chihuahua.
Our home church is Calvary Chapel of Pocatello Idaho. Our church has been coming to Creel for about 2 years to minister to the indigenous people group here known as the Tarahumara. They are a wonderful people full of joy and so simple in their lifestyle. We also focus our ministry to the people of the city of Creel. The ministry here is focused on spreading the GOOD NEWS of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the people of the Sierra Madre area.
To bring God's word to the Sierras we focus alot of our energy and time on serving the local people by doing what ever we can to show them the love of God by our actions. We have mopped buckets of mud and dirt out of a families home after a flood raged through their neighborhood. It took us days to dry everything out and clean the mud from cupboards and furniture. It is one act of random kindness such as that that can and does change a persons heart and make them ask why, why have you left your home to come to a land so far away and do this for me. It provides us a chance to tell them that there is hope and there is joy in and through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
We also have the awesome privledge of showing the love of God to the many children in the villages that surround this picturesque area of the Sierras. The children are so full of joy even in the midst of their simple lives. To be honest we envy their lives no cell phones, television, video games etc. They have school if they choose to go provided by the government, many of them will walk miles to their schools and actually stay there all week and then go home on weekends to shower or bathe and help the family farm or take care of their goats. Then on Monday it's back to school for the week and it starts all over again. On Wednesday and Friday we travel to two villages and teach bible lessons and play games with the kids we also provide a snack and crafts for them to do focused always on God. It is not our goal to "Americanize" these children we are learning their language and their games to honor their heritage. Our goal is to bring them the love of the Lord in ways they can grasp and understand. we still play "American" games like kick ball, volley ball, jump rope and the likes but we also play their version of soccer with a wooden ball (ouch) what ever we can do to interact with them in a way they can feel and understand.
The Tarahumara in most of this area live as they have for hundreds of years, simple lives of farming with no modern conveniences like electricity or running water. They are totally dependant on the rains for their crops and so many times their crops do not flourish due to the irregularity of the rains here. This year will be bad for most of the families, not from lack of rain but from an over abundance and not enough days of sunshine. So to supplement what they will be lacking we will have the opportunity with your help to show them God's love in a physical and tangible way by providing Mazeca, beans, rice, salt, manteca and even coffee.
II Timothy 2:10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.
